To Wrangle National Park

We are rather groggy after our night in the bar, so make ourselves bacon sandwiches and grab a takeaway coffee from the cafe, fill up with just enough fuel to get us to Tok (Canadian fuel prices are much higher than in the US) before visiting the historic preserved dredge called ‘Pedro” on the site just down the road. There are also various large chickens dotted around the place, so after a few snaps, we are off again.

We have an eventful drive down to the junction with the road to Tok, our next port of call, and are grateful for a fully paved, straight and smooth road! We zoom into Tok where we go the very helpful visitor centre and fill up with fuel - now back to US prices which is a relief.

We also jet wash the rig - it is absolutely filthy and takes several goes to get it more or less clean. The dust over the last 2 weeks on the gravel unpaved roads has been horrendous, getting into every joint, hinge, crack and oracle possible.

From Tok we take the ‘cut off’ road towards Wrangle National Park, our next destination. It has the honour of being the largest national park in the US, and has 9 of the 20 highest peaks in North America in its mountain range, including an active volcano.

The road is not good - really bumpy and full of potholes and sharp undulations, hampering our progress, but we eventually turn off. We stop at the Rangers Station to get any local information, then drive the very slow 27 miles to the campsite, hoping to see swans, mousse and more on the way as this has been mentioned several times as a top viewing area.

Sadly no sightings of anything at all, but we pull into the campground when it immediately starts to pour with rain, so we cook spaghetti bolognese and retire early.
