It absolutely pours with rain all night, big raindrops too which patter on the roof of the camper and we feel all warm and snug inside.

It is still raining when we get up, so we abandon the trail walk which was already boggy, and would have been too wet after all the rain. We slowly make our way back down the long and bumpy road, spotting some trumpeter swans on one of the lakes we pass, but no moose although we understand there are lots about. With the distinct lack of moose sightings we amuse ourselves with some moose puns (vamoose, the moose are out having lunch at Moosiman’s drinking Mooscadet, its a mastery and Scaramoose Scaramoose etc - you get the picture) and then continue down the Tok Cut Off road to Glenallen, our next fuel stop and where we re-stock with a few fresh groceries and firewood.

Sadly we can’t see the mountains which are a feature of this road as the cloud is very low and it’s still raining. However as we near our next campsite, it clears a little and we get a glimpse of some of the mountains, still capped in snow, and the Matanuska Glacier which is incredible.

Our campsite is located a mile from the toe of the glacier, so after spatchcocking a chicken and cooking it on the bbq, we retire to bed in the knowledge that we’ll be walking up to the glacier in the morning, hopefully under clear skies.
