Leaving beautiful Kynaskan Lake, we turn north again, still on the Cassiar Highway.
The highlight of the day was spotting a young lonesome bear on the side of the road, eating dandelions. He was very unphased by our presence, and we stopped near him and got out of the truck. He carried on eating, making his way towards us and at one point started crossing the road to come over and see us, his head in the air, his nostrils twitching as he took in our scent. At this point, I backed off, and scrambled back into the truck, although Neil stood his ground, telling the bear not to come any closer, and to "go away" very politely!
Eventually he did wander back over to the dandelions and continued contentedly eating. But what a close encounter, absolutely thrilling for us!
We arrive at Jade City, in the middle of the area which produces 90% of the world's jade. Despite its grand name, we were rather underwhelmed by the single store selling lots of jade and other crystals, its rather kitsch and very expensive.
Boya Lake is an incredible turquoise colour, and we take the couple of trails going around the perimeter, arriving right at the far side of the lake to find a huge beaver's lodge and dam. We notice that there are a lots of recently felled smaller trees - and realised that these have been cut by the beavers - there are very clear teeth marks and gnawing pattern.
Dinner is our favourite teriyaki salmon on the camp fire.
