Arriving in Jackson Hole, we have a good wander around town. It's very chichi with lots of styllish shops selling beautiful things for the home. We are drawn to Hide Out which has a wonderful array of leather goods, and the tasselled leather jacket is a must to wear in the Million Dollar Cowboy Bar later!
Having chatted to a local horn dealer at the bar in the Million Dollar Cowboy Bar, we learn that the annual Elk horn auction is on in the main square, so we head there for a look. There is a huge variety of antlers, horns and skulls from deer, elk and mousse for sale, ranging from $20 to $3,000 depending on the size and weight.
There is an elk refuge just outside Jackson Hole, and every year when they shed their horns, the local scouts collect them all, and they are auctioned at the annual horn sale with proceeds going to the scouts.
It is a very festive atmosphere, with lots of locals and tourists, the band playing.
