After breakfast, we catch the ferry back over the Yukon River into town, put our washing on at the RV campsite’s Laundromat, have a coffee at the Mammoth Bistro and then go to the Grocery store. It is very hot - 78C - so we decide to air dry our laundry back at the campsite.
We string up our cord for a washing line, and have a lazy afternoon sorting out a few bits and pieces on the truck, and sitting by the river at the campsite bringing our digital worlds up to date while the laundry dries.
Early evening we’re back on the ferry having changed as we’re off to Diamond Tooth Gertie’s, the local casino and entertainment venue. It is huge fun, with 3 can-can shows every evening, reasonably priced drinks and food, and lots of slot machines and games tables.
After the first show, we settle at the roulette table, allowing ourselves $100 to gamble away, which we duly do. The profits from the tables all goes back into the community, so we don’t mind losing all our chips, and thoroughly enjoy the banter with fellow players. Lots of locals come over the border to gamble here as it is illegal in Alaska.
We end our evening with a drink at the ‘Pit” in the Westminster Hotel, just out of curiosity as we’ve heard it’s the local drug den - an interesting hour watching the young and the not so young head off in small groups to unseen points.
Then a stroll back to the ferry under the most incredible pink sunset, and to bed, dreaming of feather boas and gambling chips!
